Lightsaber Crystals Empty
PostSubject: Lightsaber Crystals   Lightsaber Crystals I_icon_minitimeFri Oct 04 2013, 19:57

At the heart of every lightsaber was a set of crystals that resonated to produce the efficient, powerful blade. Some crystals could even enhance the Force skills of a particular user. Other gems, such as colored crystals or diamonds, were used exclusively for prismatic effects. However not all lightsaber crystals were actually crystals at all. There were plenty of exceptions where a Jedi or Sith would use a different material or substance in place of a crystal, such as physical remains, shards of glass, and even special micro machinery.

Often, lightsaber crystals were used to indicate a Jedi's chosen class. Blue indicated a Jedi Guardian, a Jedi who used the force on a more physical level. Green indicated a Jedi Consular, a Jedi who preferred to ponder the mysteries of the Force and fight the dark side at its heart. Yellow indicated a Jedi Sentinel, a Jedi who honed their skills in a balance of combat and scholarly pursuits. Sith generally preferred red lightsaber blades to distinguish themselves from their Jedi counterparts.

Before placing the crystal in the lightsaber, the Jedi or Sith must imbue them with the Force. To do this, the Force-user must meditate on the crystals for many days. Even after periods of meditation it was still a daunting task to assemble the crystals within a light-weapon and the use of the Force was necessary to delicately place the components of the saber hilt together without disastrous effects.

Each crystal is ranked Common, Uncommon or Rare based on it's availability in the galaxy. The possession of common crystals is acceptable without explanation, but the possession of an uncommon or rare crystal will require a detailed account of how it was acquired.

Adegan crystals – by type – there were three types of Adegan crystals: Kathracite, Mephite, and Pontite. The vast majority of lightsaber crystals from Ilum were green or blue in color, but all of them had the special properties that made them ideal for a Jedi's weapon. When induced by resonant frequencies, the crystals emitted powerful bursts of light, and further components of a lightsaber harnessed this power into a rod-like beam. Adegan crystals had a special connection to the Force, and it was through their use that Jedi created a bond between themselves, the Force, and their weapon. The Adegan crystals in a lightsaber gave off a weak force signature that could be sensed by any Jedi.

Barab ore – uncommon - a resource to Barab I. It actually lay on the planet's surface, meaning it was exposed to high doses of radiation and torrential downpours daily. This ore could be found in concentrated ingots that actually stored and magnified the radiation. When placed in a lightsaber, the ingots produced a blade that burned almost to the point of losing its cohesion.

Bondar – uncommon – An asteroid in far orbit around the Alderaan system was the only known source of bondar. This crystal was capable of briefly stunning an opponent if the lightsaber scraped the flesh of an opponent.

Damind – common - The planet Daminia was the only known source of damind. When set in a lightsaber's crystal chamber, damind created a wider and longer blade than seen on a standard lightsaber, able to more-easily deflect blaster fire.

Dragite - rare - The crystals were sometimes used to focus lightsabers.[1] The beam they created resonated loudly when it struck, inflicting a minor amount of Sonic damage.

Durindfire gem – common - added a distinctive silver sheen to any lightsaber blade.

Eralam – rare - a type of crystal once mined on the third moon of Erai, though ancient Sith bombardments there made them very rare. If they could be found, Eralam crystals produced a clear, superior lightsaber beam.

Firkrann - rare - a comparatively heavy lightsaber crystal mined on the planet of Rafa V. When placed in a lightsaber, it gives the blade an electric charge.

Hurrikaine – rare - deep blue to violet lightsaber crystals from the planet Hurikane admired for their unparalleled beauty. When used in lightsabers, they created blades that were very good at penetrating defenses.

Jenruax – uncommon - A refined form of Opila, the Jenruax crystal had to be cleansed of impurities before use. When set in a lightsaber's crystal chamber, jenruax made the blade more agile.

Kasha – common - helped clear the wielder's mind of distractions, even during tense combat.

Kathracite – common – an Adegan crystal, these did not focus energy as well and so were usually used in training sabers.
Krayt dragon pearl – rare - could be found in colors such as blue, green, white and black. Due to a refractive quality peculiar to the pearl, they could be used in a lightsaber if properly cleaned, prepared and installed, though it was a difficult task.

Lava Crystal – rare - was a lightsaber crystal that could only be found on volcanic planets and moons such as Mustafar. It generated a blade that resembled lava. This rare crystal was rumored to be very powerful.

Lorrdian gemstones – uncommon - crystals used to upgrade lightsabers When these gems were installed in a lightsaber, the user was better able to read the actions of their opponents. This enhanced the wielder's overall defenses and ability to deflect blaster bolts.

Luxum – uncommon - These crystals were from the world of Ambria, a planet gripped by dark energies, where they were formed out of the minerals and Force energy contained in Lake Natth through long and deep meditation. They were more effective against droids, imparting an ion effect to a lightsaber blade when used the construction of the weapon.

Mephite – common – a typical Adegen crystal used by Jedi.

Nextor – uncommon – mined in the mountains of M’haeli, it generated a highly volatile, yet powerful blade.

Opila – rare - a type of crystal occasionally used in lightsaber construction. The crystal was mined in an asteroid field in the Fyrth system. When set in a lightsaber's crystal chamber, opila generated an intense blade capable of cutting through most materials quickly.

Phond – rare - a strange byproduct resulting from rare impurities bonding during the making of certain alloys due to as-yet-unknown external conditions. This crystal produced a fiercely burning lightsaber beam.

Pontite – rare – an Adegan crystal and the most powerful of the three, it resonated with a powerful aura that cooled both skin and tempers.

Qixoni crystals – extremely rare – Dark Side - These unique, powerful gems were formed when a certain planet was consumed by its star's supernova. The power of a Qixoni crystal could only be harnessed by one with great strength in the Dark side of the Force. The crystal was said to enhance one's Force abilities in addition to enhancing the lightsaber blade's power a significant amount.

Rubat – rare - The planet Phemis was the only known source of rubat. When placed in a lightsaber's crystal chamber, rubat sharpened the appearance and definition of the blade, allowing its wielder to easily track the blade and strike opponents properly. The crystal would also help its wielder attack faster.

Ruusan – common - While not directly affecting a lightsaber's effectiveness, they aided a Jedi in focusing the Force.

Sapith – rare - The crystal was excreted by the now extinct Volice worm, a creature from the Ssi-ruuk homeworld Lwhekk, once every eleven standard years. When set in a lightsaber's crystal chamber, sapith generated an intense blade, easier to control than most other blades.

Sigil crystal – uncommon - costly but worth while due to the searing effect it has once properly placed in a lightsaber. The Jedi Nemo had such a crystal; also the Sith Lord Marka Ragnos had one in his possession.

Stygium lightsaber crystal – rare - In its pure, crystal form it was known to be suitable for use as a lightsaber crystal. It was known that when refined Stygium was mounted on a personalized lightsaber and wielded by a Force-sensitive, the natural cloaking attributes of the crystal would augment the power of a stealth-minded Jedi in remaining unseen.

Ultima-Pearls – uncommon - silvery, lustrous, spherical pearls found on Dac. They were used as lightsaber crystals, and were extremely potent in modifying the damage dealt by a lightsaber. Yet, for all its benefits, it required considerable skill to properly install an Ultima-Pearl.

Velmorite – uncommon - a yellow lightsaber crystal found only on the planet Velmor. When used in a lightsaber, this crystal created a fine, thin blade for graceful, fluid wielding.

Viridian crystal – rare - a rare type of lightsaber crystal, that when used in a lightsaber, produced a silvery-green beam. Many ancient Jedi and Sith alike used this crystal as a sign of honor and rank among fellow Jedi or Sith. The Jedi prized the crystal as an artifact with Force-sensitive capabilities. Some Jedi enhanced these crystals with Force energy, whereas the Sith chemically enhanced their crystals, allowing the lightsaber beam to inflict greater damage.

Synthetic lightsaber crystals – common - a synthetic reconstruction of a crystal, commonly with a red shading rather than those geometric models naturally created, although they can be made in any color. Due to the common red coloration, they were often nicknamed 'bloodshine blades'. Synthetic crystals were used because they created a more powerful blade and were more easily augmented.

All synthetic crystals used by the Sith generated a blade slightly more powerful than traditional, natural crystals, but the blade was also less maneuverable and more unstable than that of their Jedi counterparts. It was common for the Sith to use the Force to channel their hatred for the Jedi during the forging process, imbuing it with the dark side of the Force and shaping it into greater potency.
